Susan Campell Bartoletti:   The boy who dared

„Stand up for what is right even if you’re standing alone“.

I’ve been so fascinated by the story of Helmuth Hübener, his courage and strong will to fight and stand up for his beliefs and perspectives. His story even motivated me to read more tales of bravery from across the globe, as well as write ones of same nature.

Such (reading) experience has also influenced some of my viewpoints as a photographer hence, this frame was conceptualized. The photo depicts a lot of ideas about Hübener’s story: both connotations and denotations of bravery, of detention and freedom, and of faith and determination.

Yet, I intentionally ‚hanged‘ the title with an ellipsis to let my audience add their own understanding of the image.
